It’s important to ensure your RV is ready for an emergency. A little advance planning can make a huge difference if a natural disaster or other situation arises during your travels. Use the following tips to help prepare your RV for an emergency.
Build an Emergency Kit
Common items you may want to consider are garbage bags, toiletry items, duct tape, hand sanitizer, sleeping bags, a change of clothing and footwear for each family member, utensils, a basic toolkit, and so on. This is just a starting point, you can personalize your emergency preparedness kit as needed.
Remember to replace items in your kit after they expire, which may include batteries, food items, and prescriptions.
Delegate Responsibilities
In an emergency, it’s best if everyone has a job to do so that everything gets done. Have someone gather up pets, someone else collect prescription medications, another person ensure that appliances and lights are switched off, someone to ensure all doors are locked, someone to gather food and so on. Try to do a dry-run through your evacuation activities every few months or so in order to make sure everyone knows what to do when a crisis strikes.
Remember Your Pets
If you have pets, don’t forget to have supplies for them as well with a spare carrier, leashes, food and litter. Make sure that your first-aid kit is well-stocked with bandages, ointments, splints, tweezers, painkillers, antacids and any other necessary medications.
